On Thursday 26 September The Advertiser held Future Proof, a Defence Jobs Forum for students, parents and job seekers, at The University of Adelaide.
Naval Group Australia’s Resourcing and Recruitment Manager Lorraine Cody joined fellow defence expert panelists, to answer questions from a packed Bragg Theatre about pathways into this exciting industry.

“Within defence jobs we are looking for a broad range of skills, from engineers through to professional services such as HR and marketing”, said Lorraine.
“Industry needs to work on educating [people] that defence isn’t just a uniform, there are more opportunities than that, and the opportunities are coming – as frustrating as it may be while you can’t see the jobs. Today we are laying the groundwork and foundations with our education partners, and looking at how we transfer existing workers from other industries”.
It was unanimous amongst the experienced panel that these are not boom and bust jobs – there is mobility and stability, and while we don’t know what the jobs of the future will be, we can certainly acknowledge that STEM will be at the forefront.
